Neo Geo Dog-tag Titles
« on: October 23, 2024, 11:25:56 am »
My edit to change Ghost Pilots for the U.S. Neo Geo AES system was declined.

Some Neo-Geo titles had a North American exclusive version called the Dog-Tag series. They were differentiated from their non-Dogtag counterparts with a Black border on the box art, and had the Dog-tag logo on the spine. This is an important distinction for collectors, and we should be allowed to have this variant in the database.

There were 21 Dog-Tag titles for the Neo-Geo AES system. More information can be found here: https://www.neo-geo.com/forums/index.php?threads/dog-tag-aes-games.87498/

If your trying to edit this version I can understand why it's declined cause this is also a western version that exists. have seen that one multiple times in the wild.

Just make a seperate version of this blackborder dogtag version and you should be fine

Don't try to alter already existing versions unless they are incorrect. if you got a new variant just make a new listing.

Exactly.

First, I was not the one to reject your edit submissions but can still give feedback. When a new entry is submitted, some sort of variant descriptor will be required for the entry name. Because the actual Dog Tag term is nowhere present on these items, terms such as (dog logo) or maybe even (Official Seal) should be used instead. Ideally, the Description field should also mention why the name descriptor is being used (i.e. dog logo present on box spine or "Official Seal" spine text.) However, Dog Tag can be supplied to the Alt-Name field.

IIRC, all first run games* in the US had the dog on the spine and there are no non-dog variants for US releases. So the link posted above of Ghost Pilots is the EU version and it is just in the wrong category.

EDIT: * = the 21 games.

Thank you.

That's what I'm getting at. The U.S. version of Ghost Pilots in this database has the incorrect front box cover which I was trying to change, but was rejected. That one that is in the database should actually be in the EU category.
