Memory Cards (Management & Labels)
« on: July 31, 2025, 11:36:51 am »
As a owner of many old consoles using memory cards for saving progress, I have accumulated a vast amount of different memory cards for PlayStation, PlayStation 2, N64, GameCube and even Sega Saturn.
Unless I have a huge number of games for a system, I don't really organize how I fill up those memory cards, but with the PS1 and PS2 ones I actually categorize them in "RPG" and "any other games"   8) ... I even got a whole memory card (PS1) dedicated to Final Fantasy saves.

How do you guys organize your memory cards?

And how do you label them? Do you still have some old original labels for your cards, or do you print your own?
Does anyone eventually know a site where I can find original label's measurements, or pdf's of the labels themselves?

As with those beautiful colored Sony memory card cases from back in the day, finding original memory card labels online is a nightmare to me ^^ and as long as I change the writing on the labels a lot while saving on the cards, I don't really need original original ones  ;)

It seems like there really hasn't been that much effort in preserving official memory card labels, though that's likely due to the nature of their functionality. With that said, I've not found any easy-to-print files. I think all of the official ones I've come across have rounded corners, so that's something to keep in mind.

Nevertheless, I do know that the US magazine PSM sometimes included memory card labels, including this specific label sheet. And in Japan, Famitsuu magazine had a lot of label designs. If you search for "ファミ通 ps1 memory card labels," you'll find several different images like this one. Dengeki PlayStation is another magazine with their own labels like this, and The PlayStation magazine had some too, shown here. Also, Biohazard 2 included two different label sheets.

Yea, I already searched the web for suitable labels - which in my case would be as close to the original ones, with lines to write on them - but couldn't really find some so far... printing templates would actually be ideal. That way I could choose the sticker material the labels are printed on, being able to chose a material thats easy to write and erase on whilst not having a too agressive adhesive on them, so changing labels wouldn't necessarily involve the annoying work of removing rest of strong glue.

The bigger "main" label area of most memory cards isn't really the big deal ... but when it comes to the narrow "upper" labels, it's really hard to keep the correct measurement when doing them by yourself which I do to this day in lack of knowledge about visually more attractive options.  :-\
