Three more GB player's choice variants found
« on: Today at 04:17:28 pm »
I'm sure we all know the Game Boy has a few Player's Choice titles, but what not many know is that four of these games actually got reprinted in late 1999/early 2000 with the newer E rating.

They are:
Donkey Kong Land 1 (DMG-YT-USA-2)
Donkey Kong Land 2 (DMG-ADDE-USA-1)
Super Mario Land 1 (DMG-ML-USA-2)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (DMG-MQ-USA-2)

Out of all of these, only Donkey Kong Land 2 has an entry on this database (https://vgcollect.com/item/287536), likely because it's the most common out of the four. Attached below are the official boxes of these particular rereleases, which I found on Videogamesage, as well as three of the relevant cartridges that match to these releases (again, DKL2 is already in the database). Thanks. (I have no idea how to properly attach images to these posts as I'm new here)

You've already gone ahead and submitted entry name changes for the existing entries to include appropriate descriptors, which is good practice. However, these changes should only be done if the variant entry also exists within the database (none do, at the time of this writing.) So, I will wait to approve your edit submissions until new entries are submitted (which I can do if you're not wanting to.) Ideally, that should be the first step before making changes to existing entries.

If you're wanting to embed images, select the Insert Image button underneath the Bold button in the post menu. Or, just follow this code format:

Code: [Select]

I generally upload images to an image hosting site since it's less likely the link will expire. Imgur was generally a good site before but is currently inaccessible for some individuals globally, so other sites like Postimages and ImgBB are fine alternatives too. You may also find these tools helpful.

Oh, that's how you do it. No wonder. I'll go and make the new entries really quick right now

In the images you've provided here, box back art is not shown for any of the items. Since the entries you've submitted don't either, have you been able to confirm corresponding information otherwise? For instance, you've supplied Box Text and Barcode information under the assumption that it's copy-pasted from other entries. While the information could very well be correct, making these sorts of actions is exactly how misinformation spreads; so, it's best to only contribute data we've been able to verify. There's nothing wrong with empty data fields—we'd much rather have no data than wrong data. Just something to consider, going forward.

Donkey Kong Land does indeed have the same UPC code as the first rerelease, and it itself has the same UPC code as the first release of the game. The only difference with the E version's back is that a notice for being "Compatible with Game Boy" and the Super Game Boy icon was added (the SGB logo itself being removed from the front of the box, and the cart). It also still has a copyright year of 1997 (this was never updated, despite the E rating design, and the rerelease as a whole, being from 1999).

As for SML1 and SML2, the Videogamesage thread says their backs are 100% identical to the original KA rereleases, and that includes UPC codes as well as blurbs.
