Author Topic: Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 turn 20 years old this month  (Read 15 times)

I've found myself getting deeply sentimental towards Sony and Nintendo's 7th generation consoles, in large part because we're nearing the 20th anniversary of both. Both were the first consoles I bought brand new when they first came out, and despite being a fairly broke college student at the time, that's pretty much what I did. In a very financially irresponsible move, I bought a PS3 from a Gamestop at launch and then decided a few days later I was going to get a Wii also. Unfortunately, my bad decision caught up with me and I was forced to sell the PS3 not even two months after buying it. Luckily I was able to sell it used for almost what I paid new given how hard they were to find. I did keep the Wii however and have really fond memories of playing Twilight Princess at Launch, and also picking up future classics like Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, and Xenoblade Chronicles around the time those games first came out. BTW, I did end up getting another PS3 eventually (a slim) a few years later as a Christmas gift.

Maybe more than any other console anniversary, the PS3 and Wii turning twenty is really reminding me not only how old I am, but also how fast time flies. As I said, I was a young adult when these consoles came out and remember my life, the people I hung out with back then, where I was living at the time, my old crappy retail job I had back then, and so much more. In a way, it's a much more relatable set of memories than the ones I have being a kid and getting even older consoles like the N64 or Dreamcast. Sometimes I wish time would slow down a little.

But anyhow, just thought it would be to share my memories of the Wii and PS3 launch, and thought it would be a fun discussion thread to talk about our memories of these consoles when they first came out.
